Designed in 2007 in a moment of inspiration after reading George Orwell's allegorical novel. The imagery evokes Soviet-era propaganda posters, since Orwell wrote this as a cautionary tale of how revolutionary ideals could be co-opted into the creation of an oppressive totalitarian regime. The animals were sketched first in pencil on paper, then scanned into Photoshop for inking and color. I then used these assets to design the cover on Photoshop. I wrote the copy on the back as well.
In 2017, ten years after I designed this, the Scottish Qualifications Authority contacted me and asked if I could grant them permission to use my cover in their 2017 National 5 Art & Design exam for aspiring design students and instructors. I was very happy to, and it is now an item in their free-to-download PDF of the 2017 exam.
