Lady Chatterley's Lover Book Design — Jed-Angelo Q. Segovia

A bubbly, raunchy design of D.H. Lawrence's "Lady Chatterley's Lover", a 1928 novel about an aristocrat's passionate affair with her groundskeeper. The novel is in the public domain. This book was given as a gift.

I read the novel over a month to get a sense of its imagery and themes. Among its themes is reawakened eroticism, and I wanted to play that up in the illustration. The cover is deliberately raunchy and naughty. I also wanted to create a bubbly, animated pastiche of cheesy romance novel covers.

I met with a neighborhood print shop owner to discuss types of paper for the cover and inside pages, as well as testing colored prints and measurements.

The finished cover. The cover illustration was first sketched in multiple studies, then done in Illustrator. Afterwards, the image was imported into InDesign, where typography and further design was added. I also wrote the copy on the back.

Designing the book and printing it took another four weeks.
